Stakeholder Profile: Jamaica Bay Ecowatchers

The Jamaica Bay Ecowatchers are dedicated to the preservation, protection, enhnacement and restoration of Jamaica Bay's fragile ecosystem

This environmental group, the first to discover the loss of marshes in Jamaica Bay, was founded by Dan Mundy in 1995. They studied and documented these losses and brought them to the attention of the various agencies. They also hosted two well-attended conference/workshops, generating several recommendations that have been implemented. Funding was secured by lobbying elected officials and agencies to study causes of marsh loss and to begin restoration projects currently underway.
